May 14, 2014

In support of the May 14, 2014 release of the Bioethics Commission report Gray Matters, Integrative Approaches for Neuroscience, Ethics, and Society, Commission Chair Amy Gutmann makes the case for the explicit integration of ethics in neuroscience research inĀ an essay, "Using Our Brains," published in the Chronicle of Higher Education.

"Ethics in science must not come to the fore for the first time after something has gone wrong. The best approach is for all stakeholders in neuroscience research to work together from the start of potentially pathbreaking research to anticipate problems and prevent unethical surprises down the road," Gutmann writes.
