Unni Karunakara, M.B., B.S., Dr.PH.

Unni Karunakara is an assistant professor in the Heilbrunn Department of Population and Family Health at Columbia's Mailman School of Public Health and was the deputy director of health for the Millennium Villages Project at the Earth Institute at Columbia University. Dr. Karunakara's expertise in international health, emergency relief, and epidemic response draws on experience gained while living and working in more than 15 countries.

Dr. Karunakara has a master's degree in international health from Yale and a doctorate in population dynamics from Johns Hopkins, with a focus on forced migration. He was a visiting fellow at the Refugee Studies Center of the University of Oxford, and he completed his medical degree at Kasturba Medical College, India.
